The ultimate aim of the art of Karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants.”

What We Do
At North Peoria Karate Academy, we are committed to creating a positive, inclusive, and welcoming atmosphere for all of our students. Whether you are new to martial arts or an experienced practitioner, we believe that everyone can benefit from the discipline, focus, and physical and mental benefits of training. That’s why we maintain a clean, healthy, and family-friendly environment that encourages everyone to participate and feel at home. There is no judgment in our dojo, and we ask everyone to do their personal best and strive for improvement every day. To help guide and structure our training, we follow a set of guiding principles known as the Dojo Kun.
Our training program is designed to help our students feel at ease and prepared for any self-defense situation, whether standing, up close, or on the ground. We believe that the best way to achieve this goal is by building a strong foundation in a well-rounded range of martial arts styles and techniques. That’s why we focus on Shotokan Karate, our primary martial art, while also introducing our students to the principles and techniques of Judo and Jiu-Jitsu.
In our training, we focus on kihon (basic techniques), kata (pre-arranged forms against an imaginary opponent), and kumite (sparring). We also incorporate ukemi (breakfalls), nage-waza (throwing techniques), and katemewaza (grappling techniques) to help students develop a well-rounded skillset. By combining these styles and practicing in a variety of scenarios, we aim to help our students develop confidence in their abilities and feel prepared to handle a variety of self-defense situations.
Our instructors are highly trained and experienced in these martial arts disciplines, and are dedicated to helping their students succeed and reach their full potential. They are passionate about sharing their knowledge and skills, and strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. Whether you are looking to compete, improve your fitness, or simply learn valuable self-defense skills, we believe that North Peoria Karate Academy has something to offer everyone.
